Madrone bowl titled "Whale of a Tail"

This 6" wide by 3.5" high bowl has been hand turned from wet Madrone bowl, allowed to slowly dry and then been hand painted in this interesting Tribal design that I have named "Whale of a Tail" in archival India ink.

Madrone or Arbutus wood is a difficult but exciting wood to work with, it warps as it dries creating wonderfully organic shapes with graceful curves and natural irregularities. It regularly splits, which is a challenge! But to me these idiosyncrasies simply add to the interest and unique qualities of the piece.

Madrone wood is highly prized by most woodturners!
