language of beads

if you would like to know more about the raw materials that we use in our jewelry, here is a little information on the source, material, history & metaphysical properties of the beads that we use

jasper nuggets

Jasper is a combination of chalcedony and quartz owing its color to iron inclusions. It has been used in jewelry and decorative arts for thousands of years. Jasper was often the stone of choice among Ancient Minoan, Egyptian, and Persian Empires.

Metaphysically, Red Jasper is often used for empowerment. Jaspers are said to facilitate nurturing behaviors and benefit healing.

Personally, I enjoy the richness and depth of the color and "weight" of Jasper and have sourced Jasper in the form of nuggets, rondels and other shapes to use as both focus beads and support beads in my designs.

chunks of turquoise framed with gold metal

Turquoise has been used in jewelry and artifacts for over 5000 years, the stone has been revered for both it's beauty and spiritual significance.

Turquoise is a hydrous phosphate mineral, composed primarily of copper and aluminum.

It is found in arid regions, like Arizona and Nevada in the USA, Mexico and China.

Many believe that it promotes clear thinking and honest communication.  Historically it has been thought to provide protection.  It's calming energy is said to bring emotional equilibrium.

It is claimed that it soothes stress and brings calm, it enhances intuition and connection to a higher wisdom and bring balance and harmony.

Turquoise is a favorite for me and is regularly included in both the jewelry and the decorated wood vessels that I create.

It is the color of the sea and sky and I use it in the form of nuggets, flat wrapped pendants, rondels abacus and many other bead shapes.
