Madrone Bowl with marbled design

This unique bowl has been hand turned from wet Madrone wood with a rolled edge, allowed to dry slowly and then embellished with acrylic inks using a marbling technique. Madrone or Arbutus wood is a difficult but exciting wood to work with, it warps as it dries creating wonderfully organic shapes with graceful curves and natural irregularities. It regularly splits, which is a challenge! But to me these idiosyncrasies simply add to the interest and unique qualities of the piece. Madrone wood is highly prized by most woodturners. This unusual bowl is 7 wide and 4" high.
