Madrone Bowl with Iris Field Design

This unique bowl has been hand turned from wet Madrone wood, allowed to dry slowly and then hand painted using Inktense watercolor pencils in an Iris design . Madrone or Arbutus wood is a difficult but exciting wood to work with, it warps as it dries creating wonderfully organic shapes with graceful curves and natural irregularities. It regularly splits, which is a challenge! But to me these idiosyncrasies simply add to the interest and unique qualities of the piece. Madrone wood is highly prized by most woodturners. Thispretty little bowl is 4.7" wide and 5" high.
